Larnaca

Coastal city with Mediterranean charm

Cyprus's third city, populated by about 50,000 people, has profited over the course of millennia from its favourable location: at first the port was one of the most important economic factors, today it is the international airport Larnaca.

Visitors can enjoy the Mediterranean Sea on the waterside promenade at any time of the night or day and many white-sand beaches in and around the city. Guests on the island are spoiled with delicious vegetable and meat cuisine, and the famous red wine.

Strolls along the beach and historic treasure

On a walk under the palm trees on the beach promenade in Phinikoudes one stumbles across the historic port castle in Larnaca, the origins of which date back

to the 10th century. The mighty fortress today houses a museum concerned with the history of the island. The Agios Lazarus Church in the city centre was build in the late 9th century in byzantine style and houses the skull of St. Lazarus. A true treasure awaits divers in the city's harbour: The wreck of the sunken "Zenobia".
