Duisburg

Port city on the Rhine and Ruhr

Between the Lower Rhine and Ruhr District regions, where the Ruhr flows into the Rhine, lies the city of Duisburg. In medieval times an urban centre of trade was established here which developed in the course of industrialisation in the 19th century to an important location of industry.

Today, the city with the largest river port in Europe attracts visitors with its industry-cultural heritage, its diversity and array of cultural highlights. Each year it welcomes nearly half a million visitors.

From industry to local recreation

Duisburg's industrial heritage can be experienced in a unique way in the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park. The roughly 160 hectare park, with its diverse sporting and event possibilities, was set up on the former Thyssen AG

premises, and is today the most popular local recreation areas in Duisburg. A visit to the theatre in the evening is not to be missed: Productions are brought to the stage in cooperation with the theatres of the local surrounding towns and cities in the neo-classical building.
