The Danube rises in Donaueschingen'sd Palace Garden, between the town church of St. John and the Princely Fürstenberg Palace. According to an old custom, people throw coins into the spring to make sure to return to Donaueschingen one day. The international equestrian tournament CHI Donaueschingen is held annually

in the Palace Gardens. It is Germany's second largest equestrian tournament. Top athletes compete in different disciplines such as show jumping, dressage, polo, chariot races and cross-country competitions. In addition, a colourful traditional parade takes place. The Donaueschingen Music Days are the oldest and most traditional new music festival in the world.
